Welcome! Thank you for visiting Diane Barron Art.
Enough about me:
Born in 1948 in Michigan, I've had the gift of always knowing my focus and ability was in art. I received a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Michigan State University in 1970. Looking much like the Beverly Hillbillies, but with no oil well, my husband, Don, two sons and I moved (1978) to rural N. Idaho. We added a 3rd. son, and after much preparation moved onto our 12 acres. We now reside with 3 cats. I received my Masters in Education from the University of Idaho in 1998. Though I have done many things, my career was 20+ years of teaching high school art. Sharing my paintings, enthusiasm and knowledge will remain my "greatest show."
Georgia O’Keeffe took her instructor's words to heart; that, "Art should fill space in a beautiful way." I agree. My freehand (no projections) acrylic paintings are mostly done from photos I have taken. They are crisply detailed, moody, and sometimes surreal. An over-scaled flower may be a 2nd. signature, symbolizing continuation. A long vacant home may be crumbling, yet the narcissus continue to bloom each spring.
If I wish a painting to be photo realistic, and I need to get accurate perspective and placement, I rely upon a simple grid technique. I get a black and white 11x14" enlargement of the photo. I pencil draw a 1" square grid upon it. If, on my canvas, I am enlarging to 22x28", I'll lightly draw a 2" square grid upon it. Referring to the photo, I draw a few guide lines within each square, erasing these as I begin to paint. I can have over 100 hours of focus on a large painting. I sometimes envy those who splash paint! I hope you find my paintings lovely, and that they take you to a place you like to visit.
Sincerely,
